Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device when you visit them. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as your preferences or login status.

2. Does Design Wall Use Cookies?

No, we don't use cookies.

Instead, Design Wall uses something called IndexedDB, which is a type of local storage built into your web browser. This is different from cookies but serves a similar purpose.

3. What Is IndexedDB and Why Do We Use It?

IndexedDB is a storage system that allows web applications to save data directly in your browser. For Design Wall, this is essential to how the app works.

What we store in IndexedDB:

  • Your canvases and all their content (cards, images, text, etc.)
  • Your preferences and settings for Design Wall
  • Your session information (so you stay logged in)

Why we use it:

  • Free tier users: All your canvases are stored locally in IndexedDB. Without this, the app simply wouldn't work—you'd lose everything every time you closed your browser.
  • Paid tier users: We use IndexedDB as a local cache to make the app faster and allow you to work offline. Your canvases are also backed up to the cloud.

4. Is This Storage Strictly Necessary?

Yes. IndexedDB is "strictly necessary" for Design Wall to function. Without it:

  • Free users couldn't save any work
  • Paid users couldn't work offline or experience fast loading times
  • You'd have to log in every time you visited the app

Under GDPR and EU cookie laws, strictly necessary storage doesn't require your consent, which is why we don't show a cookie consent banner.

5. Third-Party Storage

Whilst we don't set any cookies ourselves, the services we use might:

Vercel (our hosting provider): Vercel may use minimal analytics to monitor service performance. According to their documentation, their analytics are privacy-focused and don't use cookies. You can read more about Vercel's approach here: https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy

Paddle (payment processor): When you visit payment pages, Paddle may set cookies necessary for processing your payment securely. These are controlled by Paddle, not by us. You can read Paddle's cookie policy here: https://www.paddle.com/legal/cookie-policy

6. Your Browser Controls

You have control over local storage through your browser settings. However, be aware:

If you clear your browser's local storage:

  • Free tier users will lose all their canvases permanently
  • Paid tier users will lose their local cache but can reload canvases from the cloud

How to manage local storage:

Different browsers have different methods. Generally, you'll find these options under Settings > Privacy > Site Data or similar.

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data

We strongly recommend that free tier users do not clear Design Wall's local storage unless they've backed up their canvases first using our export function.

7. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. Because we don't track you or use advertising cookies, this setting doesn't affect how Design Wall works. We respect your privacy regardless of your Do Not Track setting.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time. If we start using cookies in future (for example, if we add analytics that require consent), we'll update this policy and notify you.
